Mars was once a jungleworld full of water and life. However, when the Martians created cloning technology, they had to use water as one of the ingredients. Over the thousands of years of cloning, Mars's surface water drained up and all of the surface plants withered away. Due to this, the Martian population then retreated into the undergrounds of Mars.
